“It is the obligation of every person born in a safer room to open the door when someone in danger knocks.” Dina Nayeri, refugee and award winning author
About the Speaker:
Arlene Flaherty OP D.Min., is a Dominican Sister and the Director of the Department of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation for the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Her experience with refugees has brought her to Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the southern borders of the United States.
In her presentation, she will highlight the global refugee crisis, her personal experience among refugees and the present state of the U.S. response to those who “are knocking from the other side of the door.” She will reflect on the teaching of the church on refugees, and how Catholic Christians can bring their values and advocacy toward influencing U.S. refugee policy.
